On the Edge of Physical Stability: Random Cramps
So, obviously there’s MANY MANY things about my health that’s unstable. I’m calling this “on the edge of physical stability” because much of the time I’m stable now. But because of how easily I can get pushed OUT of stability, apparently I’m just at the edge and not well into the “Safe zone” of stability.
I just landed in Salt Lake City International Airport a few minutes ago (for my usual Utah Medical Trip). I got my rental car and as soon as I get in the driver seat, my whole left side (upper torso) cramps up. Couldn’t move the left side of my back, shoulders, arms. This happened a few times this year back home in SoCal, but 99% of the time it’s because it’s too hot. It’s only in the 60′s here in Salt Lake City today. Cramps like this usually stay for at least 4 days, so I was sitting there in the rental car, still in the Hertz parking slot, wondering what to do. Obviously I got out of there and am sitting here in my hotel room writing this, so this is what I did.
I turned up the heat A LOT and put my left shoulder and arm up against the hot air. That, and trying to relax my muscles loosened up the tension. As you also know, I do Chinese Chi energy exercises, so I used my right hand to loosen the cramps in the left. With the help of the heat, I think it helped enough to let my chi work. My left shoulder is still tight, but just barely. I was able to drive mostly with my right hand and just help with the left hand.
That’s MacGyver style creative problem solving right there.
Similar “random” pains happened earlier this week too. Late Monday night/Tuesday morning, I was sitting cross legged at my desk. When I put my left foot down I noticed I had somehow sprained my ankle! From sitting cross legged for just 5 mins or less! I would’ve told people it was some sports injury or from a heroic deed like diving to save a baby, but I’m keeping this blog 100% honest. So that’s why I still have a limp…though I’m glad it got well enough for me to travel today.
It’s 12:35pm Utah time. Need a nap to rest this left side. Appointment with Dr. Leiferman (the Dermatologist) is at 4:20pm. Tomorrow morning I see Dr. Gleich, the allergist. Wish me luck.
